Abstract: An ultraviolet nitrogen laser with a double transverse discharge was provided with an efficient cooling of the gas by heat transfer to the walls. This made it possible to dispense with a rapid flow of the gas. The same cooling method should be suitable for laser systems with an average output power of ~1–10 W. An output exceeding 0.5 W was obtained experimentally at gas flow rates of <0.3 liter/sec.
