Heterogeneous losses in gasdynamic lasers

V. M. Shmelev, A. D. Margolin
Abstract: A theoretical analysis is made of the main forms of vibrational energy losses in heterogeneous media used in gasdynamic lasers. Calculations show that the most important losses in a CO2 gasdynamic laser are optical (absorption of light by particles); these losses increase with the gas pressure in the resonator and with the weight concentration of the particles. The most important losses in a CO gasdynamic laser are those associated with the deactivation of the excited molecules on the surfaces of condensated particles.
