Observation of self-interaction of a light beam in compressed hydrogen due to stimulated Raman scattering

Abstract:
Self-interaction of a light beam in compressed hydrogen was investigated experimentally by the schlieren method. The self-interaction was deduced from the change in the angular spectrum of the pump beam. The effect was found to be related to the change in the refractive index of H2 resulting from the excitation of the molecular vibrations in the stimulated Raman effect.
