Abstract: A laser with a single-stage amplifier using organic dye solutions was found to emit radiation continuously tunable in the range 400–1000 nm. The width of the emission line was 0.1 nm, this could be reduced to 0.01 nm when a Fabry–Perot etalon was used. The stability of the emission wavelength from one flash to another was within 0.1 nm and the precision with which a given wavelength was selected was 0.15 nm. The fundamental frequencies and second-harmonics of ruby and neodymium lasers were used for pumping purposes. The properties of the output radiation were determined.
