Abstract:
A study was made of the amplifying properties of LiF crystals with stabilised $F_2^+$ colour centres with a view to possible use of these crystals as amplifiers of weak IR radiation pulses. A single-pass system pumped with the second harmonic of a pulsed Nd : YAG laser ($\lambda$ = 532 nm) made it possible to achieve 20-fold optical amplification of broad-band nanosecond IR radiation from a laser diode ($\lambda$ = 900 nm).
