Abstract: A report is given of an experimental investigation of the optical parameters of planar microscopic waveguides prepared by the diffusion of PbO. A physical explanation is given of the experimental dependences of the phase delay coefficient and of the waveguide losses on the duration of diffusion and thickness of PbO film. It is shown that planar integrated-optics elements and devices can be made from diffused waveguides.
