Influence of the degree of polarization on the gain in stimulated Raman scattering

Abstract: The threshold intensities were determined in the case of longitudinal pumping of a Raman laser with linearly polarized and unpolarized radiation. In the former case the threshold was half that in the latter. The corresponding gain was in agreement with the values reported by other authors.
