Small-scale self-focusing of confined beams

N. N. Rozanov, V. A. Smirnov
Abstract: A systematic analysis is made of the small-scale self-focusing of confined beams. A technique is developed for describing the evolution of the initial perturbations. By applying this technique to the analytic calculation of self-focusing in a laser system with an apodizing stop, it is possible to determine the permissible length of a nonlinear medium as a function of the main parameters of the medium and laser beam.
