Natural fluctuations in lasers with distributed parameters

E. F. Slin'ko
Abstract: A one-dimensional model of a ring solid-state laser is used in an analysis of fluctuations, with special attention to fluctuations of the polarization. Expression are obtained for the spectra of fluctuations of frequencies of the order of the intermode spacing. It is shown that the spectrum of the signal emitted by such a laser consists of two series of spectral lines whose parameters can be determined from expressions for amplitude and phase fluctuations. The stability of single-mode emission is investigated.
