Abstract:
A waveguide model of an injection laser is developed which allows for the dependence of the waveguide properties on the injected carrier density and for the nonuniform saturation of the gain over the resonator length. An analysis of this model shows that the steady-state watt-ampere characteristic of the laser may have a stimulated-emission termination point. This characteristic is used to explain the onset of "H-pulsing". An explanation is given of the dependences observed in the anomalous kinetics of stimulated emission.
