Lasers

Locking of two spatially separated modes of a gas laser

D. S. Bakaev, S. A. Gonchukov, V. M. Ermachenko, P. A. Usov
Abstract: Experimental and theoretical investigations were made of mode locking in a two-mode linear gas laser. It was found that locking can be suppressed by a transverse spatial shift between the modes. In the limit of large spatial shifts a two-mode laser can be regarded as two quasi-independent single-mode lasers.
