Kinematic theory of Gaussian beams in volume holography

Abstract: Recording and reconstruction of volume holograms by beams with Gaussian intensity distributions is analyzed on the basis of kinematic theory. Closed solutions are obtained for the general case. The application of the formulas obtained to specific cases reveals some differences compared with thin-film holography.
