SECOND ALL-UNION SYMPOSIUM ON PHYSICS OF GAS LASERS
Lasers in metrology
P. Giacomo
Abstract:
Various aspects of the use of lasers in metrology are discussed. The main advantages of lasers are the high intensity and the high spatial and temporal coherence; the main disadvantage is the poor long-term stability. Methods of stabilizing laser frequency, applications of lasers as frequency and length standards, and apparatus for measuring length, acceleration due to gravity, and capacitance are discussed.
