Diffraction coupling of radiation into a thin-film waveguide

Abstract:
An investigation was made of the coupling of radiation into a thin-film waveguide by a diffraction grating with a period exceeding the wavelength of light. The efficiency of the coupling into the film was ~60%. The radiation emerging from the waveguide had a diffraction-limit divergence of ~3'.
