Abstract: Four-photon parametric resonant generation of a difference frequency of neon was achieved in a helium-neon laser field. An investigation was made of the polarization characteristics of the process, and of its dependences on the level degeneracy, magnetic field, and gas pressure. It was concluded that nonlinear spectroscopy could be based on this generation process.
