Abstract: A technology was developed for the fabrication of graded-index fiber waveguides. Waveguides were prepared with a total diameter of 120 μ, core diameter of 45 μ, numerical aperture of 0.15, and total attenuation of 20–30 dB/km in the spectral range of interest in optical communication systems. The radial distribution of the refractive index in the fibers was measured by holographic microinterferometry.
