Coherence of radiation emitted by semiconductor lasers and use of these lasers in holography (review)

Yu. A. Bykovskii, V. A. Elkhov, A. I. Larkin
Abstract: This review is concerned with the methods of measuring coherence of the radiation emitted by semiconductor lasers and with the relationship of the mode structure to coherence. The frequency composition of the radiation and the presence of a noncoherent spontaneous component are discussed. Methods for increasing the coherence in question are considered. Major applications of semiconductor lasers in holography and methods for the optimization of the properties of these lasers are also reviewed.
