Method for reducing noise in holograms recorded using spatially modulated reference waves

Full-text PDF (698 kB) Citations (3)
Abstract: It is shown that the average noise intensity in a hologram plane is proportional to the variance of the reference wave intensity. An expression is obtained for this variance in the case when an extended reference source is projected on the hologram plane and it is shown that the noise can be removed completely from the reconstructed image if the projecting system passes all the spatial frequencies of the reference source.
