Spontaneous fluctuations of the emission from a laser with a transversely inhomogeneous field distribution

Abstract:
An investigation is made of the influence of a transverse macroinhomogeneity in a solid state laser on the emission kinetics. It is shown that when a fairly definite minimum is located in the central part of the transverse intensity distribution, the emission is in the form of spontaneous fluctuations whose growth increment increases with increasing depth of this minimum. The results obtained are in agreement with the experimental data on the correlation between the transverse field distribution and the laser emission kinetics.
