Induced birefringence in planar active elements

Abstract: An experimental investigation was made of the magnitude and nature of the distribution of the induced birefringence in a planar active element. A relationship between the temperature and birefringence was used to calculate the profiles of the temperature field for different pump energies. It was found that the dependence of the birefringence on the pump energy had a maximum.
