Possibility of using vibrational-translational relaxation in an amplifying medium for wavefront reversal

Abstract:
It is proposed that stimulated thermal backscattering in an inverted medium should be used to compensate for phase distortions. The conditions required to observe this effect are discussed. Results of numerical calculations are presented, confirming that a reversing "mirror" may be produced in an amplifying medium using stimulated thermal backscattering.
