Physics of lasers

Influence of self-interaction on the axial brightness of pulsed CO2 laser radiation

A. V. Berdyshev, A. P. Napartovich
Abstract: The operation of a CO2 laser is considered, taking into account the formation of optical inhomogeneities at the edge of a beam. Explicit expressions are found for the radiation intensity and the energy density on the resonator axis in the far-field zone. The conditions are estimated under which the self-interaction effect degrades the quality of the laser beam.
