Frequency measurements in the optical range: current status and prospects

V. M. Klement'ev, Yu. A. Matyugin, V. P. Chebotaev
Abstract: The current status of the synthesis and measurement of optical frequencies in the near infrared and visible spectral ranges is discussed. Promising frequency synthesis and measurement schemes are considered for this range. It is demonstrated that nonlinear optical crystals can be used in up- and down-conversion, depending on the availability of suitable radiation detectors in the converted frequency range.
