Possibility of recording gravitational waves by a laser detector

Yu. E. Nesterikhin, S. G. Rautian, G. I. Smirnov
Abstract: An analysis is made of the interaction between laser fields and gravitational radiation. In the presence of this interaction, the absorption or luminescence spectrum of a gaseous medium should include not only conventional nonlinear spectral structures but also nonlinear laser–gravitational resonances centered at points ω' =ω ± ξ (ω is the frequency of a "conventional" nonlinear resonance and ξ is the frequency of a gravitational wave). Estimates obtained indicate that laser–gravitational resonances can be detected by modern spectroscopic methods.
