Stimulated emission of electromagnetic waves by superconducting weak-link and by metal–oxide–metal systems

Abstract:
An analysis is made of the feasibility of constructing new stimulated emission sources based on superconducting Josephson elements or on the basis of planar structures made of normal metals (metal–oxide–metal diodes). It is shown that in the case of superconducting oscillators the continuously tunable range is $10^9-10^{12}$ Hz, whereas in the case of planar metal–oxide–metal diodes it extends up to $10^{15}$ Hz.
