Abstract:
It is found that as a result of high-power ultraviolet laser irradiation of aqueous solutions of nucleic acid components, the water is ionized by a two-photon mechanism. The product water radicals interact with highly excited molecules of the nucleic acid components, resulting in their decomposition.
