Study of backscattering in propagation of high-power optical pulses through multimode optical fibers

Abstract:
A biconical fiber coupler was used to investigate backscattering in a fiber waveguide when optical pulses at powers below or above the threshold corresponding to the excitation of stimulated Raman scattering were passed through the fiber. Measurements made at wavelengths of 0.53 and 1.06 $\mu m$ made it possible to determine the linear and nonlinear losses in the waveguide.
