Maximum theoretical efficiency of lasers utilizing d–p transitions in heavy rare-gas atoms

Abstract:
It is shown that the efficiency of near-infrared lasers utilizing d–p transitions in heavy rare-gas atoms pumped by ionizing radiation may exceed substantially the "quantum" value.
