Method of coupled waves as applied to radiating distributed-feedback structures

Abstract:
Equations are derived to describe reflection in the second diffraction order allowing for amplification and absorption of light in a waveguide. Expressions are obtained for the coupling, mismatch, and effective mismatch coefficients. An analysis is made of the properties of radiating distributed-feedback structures.
