The history of Polish mathematical school. Waclaw Siepinski and Warsaw set theory school foundation

In 1918 Poland had reunited into one nation, and at first in Warsaw then in Lvov two strong mathematical schools appeared. There were set theory school with Sierpinski as a leader and functional analysis school with Stephan Banach as a leader. Our first lecture is about their history and fruitful activity.
