Abstract:
Extra spacetime dimensions are an essential ingredient of a number of modern gravity theories. In particular, they have received a wide application in braneworld models aimed at solving certain problems of high-energy physics and cosmology. Recently, actively developing gravitational wave astronomy opens up new ways to experimentally probe extra dimensions. In this talk, we will discuss signatures of extra dimensions in gravitational waves from mergers of binary black holes and neutron stars associated with the Huygens principle violation in odd dimensions and the metastable character of effective graviton on the brane in the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) gravity model. The five-dimensional analog of the quadrupole formula for the power of gravitational radiation of a binary system on a brane depending on its history of motion is obtained and the corresponding non-local effects in gravitational radiation are discussed. Also, we estimate the intensity of leakage of gravitational waves into the extra dimension in the DGP model.
