Abstract:
The main publications of Carnot on mathematics and mechanics are considered. The influence of Carnot's works on the development of mathematical analysis and projective geometry in the 19th century is noted. It is shown that some of Carnot’s scientific directions continued in the 20th century and also arouse interest in the 21st. Attention is paid to the biography, state and military activities of Lazare Carnot and the fate of his descendants.
