Abstract: Although both analytic and synthetic methods are tangled, many geometers as well as engineers keep up a nice distinction. In the 18th century the descriptive geometry was born. On the other hand, one can find references to the idea of higher-dimensional spaces in the 18th-century works, but proper development has been since the middle of the 19th century. Soon such works have appeared in Russian. Next, chemists and engineers generalized their methods of visualization to many dimensions. In particular, we consider works by N.I. Hulak (1877), E.S. Fedorov (1909 and 1918), V.Ya. Anosov (1936), and V.P. Radiščev (1940 and 1941). We'll talk about the use of geometric methods by non-mathematicians, i.e., by specialists in other fields.
