Termination of flips and fundamental groups (after Joaquín Moraga)

We will talk about the connection between topology of singularities of algebraic varieties and the following important conjectures in the minimal model program: termination of flips conjecture and the conjecture on boundedness of minimal log discrepancies. In particular, we will formulate the boundedness conjecture for the regional fundamental group, which is proven by Joaquín for some classes of singularities. Also, we will show that this conjecture implies termination of flips for klt pairs in dimension 4.
