Abstract:
According to the AdS/CFT correspondence, asymptotic AdS black holes correspond to some CFT at a finite temperature. In particular, the Kerr-AdS$_5$ black hole holographically describes a thermal ensemble in a $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM on a 4d cylinder, $R^1 \times S^3$. In the holographic approach, one can describe some observables in the dual field theory using classical strings. In this talk, I will discuss open and closed strings and their dynamics in a Kerr-AdS$_5$ black hole spacetime. I will calculate the energy spectrum of a closed string and derive the exact solution in the form of a pulsating string. In addition, I will describe the dynamics of an open string, which can be interpreted as the dynamics of a heavy quark in the dual theory. The talk is based on the papers arXiv:2004.12984, arXiv:2107.11672, and arXiv:2108.12621.
