Dissipative one dimensional differential operators with complex potentials – structure of the essential spectrum

We describe the structure of the essential spectrum for dissipative 1D operators like discrete and continuous Schrodinger operator, Dirac operator etc for nonreal additive perturbations slowly decaying at infinity, with an emphasis on the stability problem for the absolutely continuous spectrum.
