Thick finitely generated subcategories on affine schemes and curves

I will report on three joint papers with Alexey Elagin. We study thick subcategories of derived categories $D^b(\mathrm{coh}X)$, in case $X$ is an affine scheme or a smooth projective curve. In some cases we obtain a complete classification. Also some surprising phenomena occur.
