Abstract:
In April 2018, one of the significant dates was modestly celebrated - the 150th anniversary of the birth of Georgy Feodosievich Voronoi (1868-1908). At one of our seminars, we talked about Voronoi’s biography, his mathematical works and their significance for the development of science. But for the anniversary there were publications that, I think, will be interesting to the audience, and new materials were found that deserve attention. Since the scientific contribution of G.F. Voronoi has been seriously studied since the late 40s of the 20th century (first in the remarkable work of B. N. Delaunay “Petersburg School of Number Theory”, then in the 1950s by a group of leading mathematicians and historians of science while working on the edition of Voronoi's “Collected Works” in 3 volumes), so the lecture focuses on the consideration of his pedagogical activities and the scientist’s civic position in difficult times for Warsaw higher education institutions.
