Abstract:
The fundamental quandle of a knot admits a topological interpretation, described by Matveev. The fundamental biquandle of a knot, however, is purely algebraically defined. We will present a geometric construction of a biquandle, associated to a knot. A presentation of the geometric biquandle, based on a knot diagram, will be described. Possible generalizations
and applications of this construction will be discussed.
