Abstract: Results of an experimental study of longitudinal nonlinear oscillations of a gas in a closed pipe are reported. Pressure waves in a broad range of excitation amplitudes and frequencies are studied. Strong nonlinear oscillations at a frequency thrice as low as the first natural frequency of the gas column are discovered.
