Absolute and convective instability of a supersonic boundary layer
G. V. Petrov Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Siberian Division, Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk 630090
Abstract:
Using the saddle-point method, asymptotics of time evolution for spatially localized three-dimensional intrinsic disturbances are determined. Criteria of absolute instability are established for the case of a branching dispersion relationship. Calculation results for the regions of existence of instability for a flat-plate boundary layer for $\mathrm{Re}\to\infty$ and $\mathrm{M}=10$ are presented.
