Abstract: A rigid-plastic model of shearing chip formation is proposed. The model is based on the Mohr–Coulomb yield criterion and allows one to determine the size of chipped elements in orthogonal cutting of plastic and brittle metals.
Keywords: metal cutting, shearing chip, plasticity, Mohr–Coulomb yield criterion.
