Abstract: Pulsed fluidization of a packed bed of a disperse material is studied experimentally and numerically. Mathematical modeling of the process is performed within the framework of the approaches of mechanics of heterogeneous media on the basis of an experimental study of the bed uplift height as a function of the pressure difference in the fluidized bed. A detailed dynamic flow pattern corresponding to one pulse of the experimental setup is obtained numerically, velocity and pressure distributions inside the bed are found, and the maximum height of the bed uplift is determined. The results obtained are demonstrated to be in reasonable agreement with experimental data on the uplift height as a function of the pressure difference.
