Abstract: The optical and luminescent properties of sapphire single crystals irradiated by a pulsed Fe$^{10+}$ ion beam with an energy of 200 keV are studied. The results of measurements of optical absorption, photoluminescence, and pulsed cathodoluminescence indicate the formation of $F$ and $F^+$ centers in ion-irradiated crystals. The luminescence of $F$ centers nonmonotonically depends on the radiation dose, which is explained by the effect of concentration quenching. The thermoluminescence of crystals irradiated with Fe$^{10+}$ ions is observed in the temperature range of 350 – 750 K. Decomposition of the thermoluminescence curves into elementary peaks of the general order kinetics made it possible to obtain the kinetic parameters of the traps. The prospects for using sapphire crystals in thermoluminescent dosimetry of pulsed ion beams are considered.
