Optical effects in magneto-plasmonic crystals based on 1D metal-dielectric grating

Abstract: Optical and magneto-optical spectroscopy methods are used to study the properties of one-dimensional spatially-periodic structures formed by a dielectric grating covered with gold and permalloy films. We demonstrate that such structures reveal surface plasmon-polariton excitation with the resonant frequency that can be controlled by the geometry of the experiment. Modulation of the magneto-optical Kerr effect is attained in the spectral vicinity of the plasmon resonance, which is absent for the case of non-structured gold-Py bilayer.
