Abstract: The article presents an overview of the original results of studying the optical and holographic properties of two types of photosensitive materials used in modern optical holography: doped lithium niobate crystals and photo-thermo-refractive glasses. A comparative analysis of the main holographic characteristics of these materials is presented. The advantages and disadvantages of photo-thermo-refractive glasses and lithium niobate crystals are shown, as well as the most significant examples of their practical applications in photonics.
Keywords: lithium niobate, photo-thermo-refractive glass, volume Bragg gratings, holographic optical elements.
