Ulyanovsk State University, RussiaIn 1988 a creative team under the leadership of Prof. Yuri  V. Polyanskov revived the University based on a new concept of the Russian classic-type education. By Resolution of the USSR Government of 11. 02. 1988 Ulyanovsk (and the only) branch of Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov was established.

On September 1, 1988 the first 200 students of Department of Mechanics and Math and Department of Economics began their classes in the only building of the new university. At present the University has more than 8.000 students who study in 7 modern buildings covering over 55.000 square meters of classrooms and labs.

In December 1995 the Branch of MSU was re-organized in Ulyanovsk State University by Decree of President of the Russian Federation.

USU has always followed the best traditions of the Russian higher education existing from the second half of 19th century. For example an institution of Board of Trustees was revived which incorporated about 100 representatives of governmental, public and business organizations of the region interested in developing education, science and culture. The Board of Trustees introduced scholarships for the most talented students and young scholars as well as for orphan students. From 1992 a Degree of Winner of USU Board of Trustees Scholarship is awarded to outstanding representatives in education, science, technology, culture and arts.
