The twenty-two research laboratories at the University, twelve of which are mixed units with the CNRS, the INSERM, the INRA and the CEA, work in four fields :
Life Sciences
Fundamental Science and Engineering
Information and Communication Science and Technology
Human and Social Sciences
University research, although pluridisciplinary, is largely concentrated in the life sciences and is closely connected to teaching. This field of research has always been supported by regional and local agencies (the Conseil Régional and the Conseil Général). The University, along with the AFM (Association française de lutte contre les myopathies), founded the GenopoleŽ, a public interest group. Other high-level research activities are also located at the University in science and technology, including information and communication science and technology, in mathematics, in financial economics, in history and in sociology.
