University of Sistan and Baluchistan was established in 1975/1976. The first course of study offered was in the field of construction (roads & buildings) in the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Soon thereafter, in spite of innumerable teething troubles, the University was able to offer many other engineering courses.
In 1977, the Faculty of Navigation and Marine Sciences was established in Chabahar. This was then one of the most expensive educational projects to be undertaken by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. Two years later, the establishment of the Agricultural Institute, was one more step in planning and providing experts and skilled labor for this remote province.
The Faculty of Sciences was established in 1986. The Faculty of Agriculture (formerly Agricultural Institute) and the School of Graduate Studies commenced functioning in 1989. In 1990, a research centre dealing with water of the province was set up with the aim of becoming self- sufficient in trained and skilled personnel. A system of University Evening Classes was started in 1991 to provide University- level education to people from different walks of life. The Faculty of Economics and Administration was also inaugurated that year for the same purpose.
Taking cognizance of the experience and capabilities or the people in the province ,the University also established an Institute of Animal Husbandry. in 1991 at Zabol. A centre for Agricultural Research and the Faculty or Natural Sources were respectively Founded in 1996 and 1997.
In all, University of Sistan and Baluchistan now has thirteen full-fledged faculties, a graduate school, two research centers, and an educational complex comprising boys and girls' private elementary and guidance/secondary schools , and a government-aided residential high school.
