The Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg has a distinctive profile. It aims to cut a clear and efficiently-structured figure with its main focus of expertise in the traditional areas of engineering, the natural sciences and medicine. It also views economics and management as well as the arts and humanities as essential disciplines for a modern university in the information age.
In the spirit of Otto von Guericke, after whom it is named, the University sees its prime task as raising the standard of education and scholarship through teaching and research. We are indebted to Otto von Guericke for providing us with the following ideals: the application of scientific methods, the quest for innovation and new knowledge and to take on social responsibility for today's and future generations
Our University is a community of staff and students and is based on openness, trust, tolerance and co-operation. It aims to create a productive environment which promotes health and achievement.
